This recipe is intended to be used with an air fryer and this recipe is just one more reason that I am completely in love with my Ninja Foodi.
I am not a kitchen gadget type of person but I made an exception for this amazing pressure cooker, slow cooker, dehydrator, air frying, sauteing, baking combination marvel of technology.
But don’t worry. If you don’t have one or haven’t taken the leap yet, you can bake the air fryer pickles in the oven and they will be fantastic (if slightly less crispy).
🥘Ingredients
- 24 oz Dill Pickles Could be Spears or chips- Check the label to make sure they are sugar free
I love spicy pickles but unfortunately most brands have a lot of carbs. This recipe includes cayenne pepper for just the right amount of kick.

Or, you can make your own low carb fridge pickles..it’s fun and so fresh. Check out this amazing recipe over at Recipesthatcrock.com.
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp heavy cream *almond milk will work too
- 1/2 cup Parmesan the powdered stuff in the green can works well
You can use shredded parm if you want but make sure that you really press the dry mixture into the pickles so that the shreds don’t fly around into your air fryer fan.
- 1/2 cup Carbquick
Carbquick is AMAZING stuff. I tried not to use it for a long time because I thought it was too pricey.
But, a little goes a long way and it really takes Keto Baking up a notch.
It does contain gluten (which is fine for those without gluten sensitivities). But, before you send me an email or leave a comment about the evils of gluten, just exchange this ingredient if you are gluten free.
You can use either 1/4 cup of coconut flour or whey protein.
- 1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika
- pinch Cayenne Pepper *optional to give it a kick
I use more like 1/4 teaspoon in my air fryer pickles because I like them spicy.
👩🏽🍳 How to make the Fried Pickles:
- Beat together the eggs and heavy cream (or almond milk if using).
- Mix together the Parmesan, Carbquick and spices in another bowl.
If you are looking for a gluten free option, exchange the Carbquick for 1/4 cup of coconut flour or whey protein.
- If using pickle spears and they are too thick, slice them to desired size.
Dip the pickles in the egg mixture and then roll each one in the dry ingredients, pressing it into the mix so that it sticks to the pickles.
Air Fryer Method:
- Arrange the pickles on your air fryers (oiled) crisping rack, spray with a tiny bit of olive oil and fry @ 400F (204C) for about 10-15 minutes or until browned and crispy.
I really like this olive oil sprayer for use with my Ninja Foodi. It has been dropped and misused and still keeps working.
Plus it’s glass so you can see when you need to add more oil instead of finding out that your dispenser is empty while you’re busy cooking.
This is by far the superior way to make fried pickles.
Oven Method:
- Arrange the pickles on a baking sheet with an oiled bake-able rack in a pre-heated 400F (204C) oven. Bake for about 20 minutes flipping halfway through. The outsides should be a crispy golden brown.
- Serve the pickles hot with your favorite dip!
These are great with:
And the air fryer pickles make a nice topping for juicy burgers too! Check out the two minute burger bun if you need a quick bun recipe.
📋Variations and make ahead info:
- In case you missed the bit about making the air fryer pickles gluten free:
Simply exchange the Carbquick for 1/4 cup of coconut flour or unflavored whey protein.
- This recipe will work on just about any pickled veggie if you want to switch it up.
- The air fryer pickles are best when they are fresh and straight out of the fryer.
If you have leftovers you can store them in the fridge and reheat them in the toaster oven or frying pan with a squirt of olive oil.
That all for the Low Carb Air Fryer Pickles!
I know that if you like pickles you are going to love these!
As always leave me a comment if you have any questions or amazing adaptations.
Cheerio friends!
