The butter mixture is also excellent in coffee for a special low carb treat.

Low Carb Hot Buttered Rum Post

This is a super easy recipe so I’ll keep it short and sweet…

Ingredients

  • Water.
  • Butter – unsalted
  • Cinnamon
  • Rum.

How to make Hot Buttered Rum:

  • Put everything but the rum in a medium size saucepan and bring to a boil.

Then turn down the heat and let simmer for 10-15 minutes.

  • Turn off the heat and stir in the rum.

High heat will evaporate alcohol. Make sure it is no longer boiling when you add the booze.

  • Garnish with a cinnamon stick, and serve hot.

Tips & FAQ’s:

Can I make this ahead of time?

Sure, follow the instructions up to the part where you add the rum.

Once you add the alcohol it cannot be re-heated. Cut the recipe in half if you won’t be able to finish it all.

  1. Claudio, Thanks. Low carb food will NEVER taste exactly the same as sugary treats. Concentrate on what you CAN have and it will be easier to stay Keto and meet your goals.

This recipe made my day. I am still new to Keto and the “sweetener” is taking time to get used to or else it would be a five star recipe.

  3. I have been looking for recipes to make for the holidays and I cant wait to make this! After a year and a half without seeing my family, I am taking a lot more care with this years menu. Thank you for your recipes! I really appreciate you guys.

This Hot Buttered Rum really does taste like Christmas in a cup! Thanks so much for helping to make this season a little brighter.

  5. Hi Mary! I am so glad you are going to make this drink. It’s a fantastic way to warm up. I think that your idea will work. Just make sure you keep the drink under 172F or the alcohol will evaporate. You’ll still have the flavor of the rum but not any of the effects…which is an important part of the experience for most people lol.Cheers!

  6. TY so much for this fabulous idea! I’m in the Rockies of Canada and totally ‘get’ the indulgence of hot, winter drinks, especially toward the holidays! ❤️

Do you think after swimming, that putting that mixture into a small crockpot and then adding the rum, keeping it on low, would be a good idea too? I think I may give that a try…so I don’t forget it’s on the stove and that it can stay perpetually warm (on low). TY so much again! 🙂

  7. I needed a recipe for one drink and didn’t have some of these ingredients on hand. But, you inspired me! I heated 1/2 cup of spiced rum with 1 Tblsp of salted butter and 1 Tsp of Pumpkin Spice in the microwave for 30 seconds. Added 1 cup of boiling hot water. Stirred and enjoyed. Thanks for the idea!
