If you have been on the Keto Diet for more than five minutes you know that Avocados are a central part of this lifestyle that relies on healthy fat.

It’s an easy recipe and and while I love plain avocados, the grilled version is much creamier and blends perfectly with salsa and a little bit of goat cheese.

This is a super easy Keto Snack recipe.

I almost feel bad calling it a “recipe” because it’s so easy. But sometimes, especially in the beginning of the Keto Lifestyle, people run out of snack ideas that sound good.

This leads to backsliding and eventually quitting. So, along with this easy snack, I have put together a whole post about super easy snacks that don’t even really need a recipe to go along with them…they’re that easy!

Check it out here…

The Grilled Avocado Ingredients:

  • 1 Avocado ripe
  • 2 oz Salsa your choice

A lot of pre-made salsa’s have added sugar. If you want to make your own you can check out this AWESOME Keto Pico De Gallo by “My Keto Kitchen”. It’s fresh and fantastic!

The Grilled Avocado Instructions:

  • Salt and pepper the avocado meat.
  • Place on the grill, turning every few minutes until the skin turns green and the meat has browned to your liking.
  • Add a scoop of salsa to the center of the grilled avocado.

Avocados are nutrient rich and provide a ton of protection against diseases like cancer and osteoporosis.

You don’t have to take my word for it. There is a pretty cool and comprehensive post written all about the amazing value that avocados bring to the table right here that you can check that out.

Blood Avocados

While avocados are an integral part of the Keto Diet I feel like I have to do a very short spiel about blood avocados and the effects the rise in popularity avocados has had on our neighbors in Mexico and South American countries like Chile.

What are blood avocados?

Remember the blood diamonds where people were being forced to work in awful conditions to mine diamonds in Africa? The same sort of thing is going on with Avocados.

Small farmers are being driven out and water resources are being diverted away from families in order to grow avocados by the cartels. They are calling avocados “green gold” and hawking these things like cocaine.

There is a special documentary on Netflix that you can watch to learn more.

Not everyone is going to like what they read about this situation. That’s okay. We shouldn’t like it.

But don’t despair…you can still eat avocados without guilt.

What can you do about the Blood Avocado situation?

Try to buy local avocados. And when I say local, I mean fruit produced in the United States. If your local store doesn’t carry California or Florida grown Avocados this website has them and you can feel good about buying them from generational farmers.

Avocados are a Super-food and you should try to work them in as much as you can. These simple tips helps make them more sustainable.
